Railway celebrating anniversary with luxury journey
A LUXURY day out on Britain's railway is on offer to South Devon train lovers.
Great Western Railway is celebrating 175 years of the company being founded with a train journey fit for a king.
First Great Western, in partnership with Vintage Trains Ltd, is running a class steam locomotive and high-speed train from the West Country on Saturday, April 17.
Passengers will ride a charter service to London where they change on to a steam-hauled express train bound for Bristol.
It will be the first non-stop steam-hauled express passenger service between the two cities since the early 1960s.
After that, they will rejoin the high-speed service back to the West Country.
Throughout the journey all food and drink will be provided including breakfast, champagne and a cream tea.
The special charter service will call at stations, including Newton Abbot, en route to and from London.
Timings are still being finalised but the departure from Plymouth is expected to be 6.45am with the return at 17.13pm. Tickets are £150 and £225.
