Recognition for more Torbay childcare facilities
St Marychurch Pre-School in Torquay and the Nest Neighbourhood Nursery in Brixham are the latest early years settings to be recognised for their commitment to improving childcare.
Now three early years settings and five Torbay childminders have achieved the Bristol Standard Quality Mark in the last year. A further seven settings and two childminders are currently working towards the framework.
The Bristol Standard framework enables early years providers to develop the quality of their care and play through self evaluation. Staff, children and parents are all involved in identifying the setting's or individual's strengths, what they want to improve and how it will benefit the children. Certificates, which last a year, are then awarded to early years providers which have demonstrate they have set appropriate challenges for improvement.
Torbay Council is committed to improving the quality of services and its Early Years Team promotes the Bristol Standard to all early years settings in the Bay.

Executive Lead for Children, Schools and Families, Councillor Chris Lewis, said: "It's great news that so many of Torbay's nurseries, pre-schools and childminders are getting behind the Bristol Standard to help them give the children they look after the very best care they can.
"I'd like to congratulate everyone at St Marychurch Pre-school and The Nest for the hard work they have put into achieving this quality mark and for going the extra mile.
"Torbay has the biggest percentage of registered early years and childcare providers in the country to be rated by Ofsted as Outstanding or Good for their overall effectiveness. By working towards the Bristol Standard they are proving that they are committed to building on this success to give our young children the best possible early education."
