IF YOU want to find out about launching and running a non-profit ethical business or social enterprise, look no further than the free Social Enterprise Focus workshops being run by Peninsula Enterprise in Paignton, Plymouth and Torquay.

Business adviser Andrew Allchurch, who is running the events, said: "Managing a social enterprise isn't about the money, it's more about achieving the needs of a community, of society as a whole or the environment.

"And this is an approach which increasing numbers of people are finding amazingly inspirational, making social enterprises the fastest-growing kind of business in the world.

"As a result, demand was massive for the series of similar workshops we ran in March this year, so we're truly back by popular demand."

Social enterprises are not all large organisations like Jamie Oliver's restaurant Fifteen or Cafedirect, although these are inspiring examples of what can be achieved.

Andrew said: "These days, probably every high street and village houses a social enterprise of one sort or another, from a crèche to a community centre or a café, so we again expect demand for the events to be strong, and we'd advise anybody who wants to be there to contact us quickly."

The workshops are designed for local people who are planning to launch or expand a social enterprise, or who simply want to know more about the subject.

They will cover what a social enterprise is and delve into the marketing, finance and legal issues involved in helping them grow and prosper.

The workshops are being held from 9.15am to 12.30pm on:

Wednesday, June 27: Paignton Library, Great Western Road

Thursday, July 5: The Business Space, 69-71 Mayflower Street, Plymouth

Thursday, July 12: Outset Torbay @ Torbay, 97 Abbey Road, Torquay.

The events are restricted to people from Plymouth and Torbay and are limited to two people per organisation.

To attend, call Peninsula Enterprise on 0871 641 2119 (ext 8254) or email events@peninsula-en terprise.co.uk
