MAJOR roadworks will get under way on the main road between Dartington and the A38 next week.

Road widening and resurfacing work will get underway on the A384 next Monday.

The £175,000 Devon County Council scheme will upgrade the section of road between Riverford Bridge and Hood Bends. The road is being widened to make it easier for vehicles to manoeuvre when approaching the bridge in order to prevent reoccurring damage to the bridge’s parapet wall.

The scheme is scheduled to take five weeks to complete and BT will divert overhead cables prior to the start of work.

The first four weeks will see widening carried out during the day time using temporary traffic lights.

Resurfacing is scheduled to be carried out between March 17 and 20.

In order to carry out the work safely and to minimise disruption, resurfacing will be carried out overnight with road closures between 7pm and 6am.

Access within the closure will be maintained for residents and the 88 bus service, but other traffic will be diverted via the A385 and the A38 at Marley Head.

The work will be carried out by contractor South West Highways on behalf of Devon County Council.
