UNDER-12 rugby teams from Churston Ferrers Grammar School showed off their competitive side when they took part in a tournament involving every secondary school in South Devon.

The two teams of budding year seven rugby stars not only took part in the event but one of them went all the way to the final.

The aim of the tournament was to provide an introduction to rugby for pupils who may not have had any playing experience.

The Churston 'Bar Bars' worked extremely hard to go on to win the plate competition.

A school spokesman said: "This was a fantastic level of commitment displayed by all players, boding well for future years."

Students at the school have also been busy fundraising for the new sixth form centre.

Form 11B ran a Mario Kart Championship outside the school hall during lunch breaks. Pupils and teachers competed to see who could get the fastest time on the track.

Sweets were also sold alongside the main event.

In total, more than £100 has been raised and 13-year-old Alfie Riden from took home a £10 prize.

A school spokesman said "This was a fantastic week which really showed our pupils at their best."
