SOUTH Devon's top bike racer Jonathan Tiernan-locke has been forced to abandon the prestigious Paris-Nice race.

The organisers announced this afternoon that the Plymouth-based rider had pulled out of the race.

Tiernan-Locke rides for the Sky Procycling team and had been working as part of the squad of riders helping Richie Porte in his efforts to win the race overall.

He withdrew during today's stage from Chateauneuf-du-Pape to La Montagne de Lure.

According to the official race website, JTL climbed off at 2.10pm just after the climb of the Col de la Morte d'Imbert.
