Sailors invited to world-renowned school
Two sailors have won places at a top international training centre.
Sam Goodchild, 23 from Falmouth and Henry Bomby 22 from Dartmouth, recently started at the Pole Finistere centre in Brittany – considered by many to be the top offshore sailing facility in the world. The sailors are spending the year training alongside some of their greatest rivals ahead of next season in the Figaro – a 33ft boat they race single-handed.

They're the only British sailors to be trained at the centre in that class of boat.
Sam Goodchild said: "The great thing about joining Pole Finistere is we get to train with many of the greats in Figaro sailing."

The training combines classroom lectures in French on weather, navigation and sport psychology, with gym sessions and racing on the water. Both sailors are trying to find sponsorship to ensure they can be as competitive as possible come the racing season and the month-long Solitaire du Figaro in June.
Henry Bomby said: "As I am still on the hunt for a title sponsor I have kindly been lent a boat by a previous Figaro champion called Charles Caudrelier who has became a bit of a mentor and coach, meaning my first few weeks training have been highly productive."
Their long-term ambition is to race single-handed around the world.
