SALCOMBE'S all-weather lifeboat The Baltic Exchange III was launched on Tuesday afternoon after a dive vessel got into difficulties off the South Devon coast.

Brixham Coastguard requested the launch at 12.24pm to the 14-metre Plymouth-registered motor boat Miner III which had suffered gear box failure two miles east of Prawle Point.

The Miner III is a Ministry of Defence dive salvage vessel and had been on passage from Plymouth to Portland.

The Tamar class lifeboat was on scene 15 minutes from being launched. The crew took the diving boat in tow and brought it back to Salcombe Harbour.
