SallyAnn's 'dressing up box' is heavenly shopping experience
A TRIP to Australia was the beginning of one of South Devon's most enchanting boutiques.
When SallyAnn (CRRCT) Cox travelled to see friends half way around the world, she found a wealth of womenswear designer talent almost unheard of in the UK.
Inspired by the unique feminine looks and quirky designs, she brought some of the pieces back to sell from her home in Loddiswell, previously the village hairdressers which had a shop already attached.
SallyAnn explained: "It had started when I was in Australia six years ago when I saw all these lovely nice feminine clothes and brought some back.
"I had kept finding things which were so different to anything in this country.
"There are a lot of talented girls over there making their own designs, sourcing their own fabrics but who are not part of big marketing concerns and not many of them were exporting."
Demand grew and SallyAnn found new premises in Kingsbridge where Cherry Cherry was born three years ago at premises in Church Street.
It was by word of mouth that I discovered the shop a few months ago.
Spacious and with a completely feminine feel, it is the atmosphere that makes this a heaven for shoppers almost as much as the amazing clothes inside.
SallyAnn has created a boudoir where you can happy spend hours browsing, trying on anything and everything and enjoying a cup of tea.
"I wanted to make it like your favourite bedroom, like a big dressing up box where you can come in and try things on you would never normally try.
"I tried to make a nice environment for women to shop. I give honest opinions and help, if that's what people want.
"A lot of women find shopping a horror but the shop is meant to be a bit more of an experience."
As well as the Australian brands, SallyAnn has some familiar names in the store including feminine and delicate designs by Nougat, Irish brand Avoca Anthology, featuring nostalgic knits and wraps with polka dots and lacework, separates and dresses in luxury fabrics, velvets, heavy satins, cashmere and lace.
Also in stock are items by UK brand Fever, known for its separates in bright colours and unusual prints.
Metalicus is one of the inspirational labels from Australia with colourful long-sleeve tops and camisoles in a two-way stretch fabric, great for layering.
Hugely popular are the 'underwear as outerwear' corset-style tops by Arianne in a choice of jacquard, lace, ultra-soft modal, cottons and viscose.
There is also a selection of shoes and accessories, including bags and quirky jewellery.
One of the most notable features of the shop is the wealth of colour, from pastels to brights and amazing prints.
The changing rooms are huge, with plenty of room, chairs to relax in and good lighting.
"I try to have a good mix of brands from this country and Australia.
"There is lots of silk and lace, very feminine pieces which you can easily mix with jeans and other items already in your wardrobe," said SallyAnn.
