YOU many not realise it, but you've heard Alan Barnes in action.

If you have watched any TV or listened to almost any music in the past few years, you'll have heard him.

Now there's a chance to see Alan (pictured) live as Torquay's Speakeasy Jazz moves to a new venue for the gig on Wednesday, February 8.

The UK's top saxophonist joins the Craig Milverton Trio at the new venue of the Bancourt Hotel in Avenue Road.

Alan studied saxophone, woodwinds and arranging at Leeds College of Music, then moved to London and played with the Midnight Follies Orchestra and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, touring Europe until 1983.

He played with Tommy Chase and then The Jazz Renegades with rock drummer Steve White, travelling as far afield as Japan and recording four well-received albums.

Other credits include time with the Humphrey Lyttleton Band, the Pizza Express Modern Jazz Sextet, the BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestra and big band leaders Dick Walter, Kenny Baker, Bob Wilber, Don Weller, Stan Tracey, Mike Westbrook and John Dankworth.

He has also appeared as a session musician on albums by Selina Jones, Bjork, Van Morrison, Bryan Ferry, Clare Teal, Jamie Cullum and Westlife and can also be found on film and television soundtracks including Chicago and jingles such as the Tetley Bitter adverts featuring his solo baritone.

Alan has appeared regularly as a member of the Laurie Holloway orchestra on television's Michael Parkinson show and Strictly Come Dancing.

In 1999, he toured America and Europe with Bryan Ferry's band.
