Scheme helps vulnerable people in Torbay
TORBAY'S Neighbourhood Watch Forum has launched a new scheme to help vulnerable individuals living in Torbay.
The Feel Safe Scheme aims to help vulnerable individuals to feel safer in their own homes and neighbourhoods.
£1 off the price of swan boat or bumper boat hire with this voucher
Terms: Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer or voucher
Contact: 01803 221090
Valid until: Saturday, November 02 2013
The scheme enables small jobs to be carried out at someone's property to help them feel safer. This might include things like adding a peep hole to the door, fitting a door chain, putting up a security light or carrying out minor repairs to fencing.
The Neighbourhood Watch Forum has secured £4,000 of funding from The Marjorie and Geoffrey Jones Charitable trust, the Norman Family Charitable Trust, Sanctuary Housing and the Co-operative Community Fund so that in most cases work will be carried out free of charge, but in some cases a small contribution to the total cost of the work may be required.
Local organisations Anode and Torbay Age UK are also fully supporting the scheme and are utilising their accredited list of skilled contacts to complete the works. The Fire Service is also very engaged with the scheme and have offered to complete Home Safety visits to those signposted as most at risk in our communities.
Alan Thornton, the deputy Chair of Torbay NHW, said: "Everybody has the right to feel safe in their own homes but people who are vulnerable in some way may need a bit of extra support. This scheme is the first we are aware of and we are looking forward to helping the most vulnerable people of Torbay who may be unable to afford to arrange for this work to be completed themselves."
PS Lou Costin the Torbay Community Safety Sergeant said: "This is an exciting scheme and is unique to Torbay. In times of austerity it is to be applauded that the Torbay NHW Forum have secured this funding which will make such a difference to people who need it the most."
If you are concerned about someone living in your community who may benefit from this scheme please contact the Neighbourhood Watch volunteers on 01803 218701 (leaving a message if a co-ordinator is not there) or email torbayneighbourhoodwatch@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk with details.

“For once I agree with you. The Conservatives under Thatcher seriously under estimated what the NHS means to this country.”

“This artical aside, here is a bit of history for you Sidney, the mental health services in the UK are in a mess due to your mate Maggie, granted the NHS hasnt been helped by New Labour and Cameron and his poodle, so if you want someone to blame, start at Thatchers door, over and out.”

“The case in question has to do with the smug public sector falling asleep on the job once more, it is good to see that the general public are waking up to the liberal sham of non interventionist police and wooly headed social workers (or is it socialist sherkers) even if the Herald are keeping to their left wing editorship and censorship policy.”

“This case has nothing to do with the Hostels drugs or Alcohol, it has all to do with poor community psychiatric care. All you do on this site is bend and twist every thread to suit your Daily Mail headline grabbing rants. You even tried to twist the thread of theft of lead from a chuch roof to blame it on Stocks, Drugs Alcohol etc etc. However I fully expect you to ignore that and carry on with your piffle, off you pop, go and change your name again.......”

“On the news tonight was a woman with mental health issues who went out and committed murder. The Police and Social Services have been heavily critised for letting her out into the community. Now let me think, who do we rely on to supervise the intake at these hostels, oh yes, the Police and Social Services, feel any safer?”

“However, to make you feel unsafe, the local council are supporting with public money The Leonard Stocks Centre and The Newton Road Hostel among others. These places regularily house sex offenders, drug addicted criminals and alcoholic thugs.”
