School marked landmark birthday by going back 100 years in time
TWO Torquay schools marked historic landmarks in the spring of 1972.
Warberry Church of England Primary School had opened in January of that year and in May welcomed the mayor of Torbay, Gwen Illingworth, for the official opening.
Three pupils were selected to escort the councillor around the new building.
Warberry Primary School was built on the site of the former Winchester Lodge Preparatory School for Boys, and extended in October 1989 as a replacement for the old Torwood Church of England School and Madrepore Road annexe.

Meanwhile, Ellacombe Primary School was celebrating a much longer heritage.
It had been founded in 1872 and 100 years on staff and pupils dressed up to create a Victorian class, hopefully without the discipline although back in 1972 corporal punishment was still frequently used.
If you have any class photos from the 1970s please send them in and share your memories.
