"They look superbly smart and I would like to say a huge thank you to all parents who have made sure they are kitted out properly. I think the students are extremely proud and now feel they are the same as everyone else.

"It is really onwards and upwards from here and the new status along with our new buildings have given us real opportunities.

"Results in August had improved and that was a tremendous start and we continue to raise standards further.

"We are preparing for the sixth form to open in 2013. It will be a joint venture with Torquay Boys' as we have great facilities here particularly for IT, technology, performing arts and sport. It is great news. We are looking at a full programme of courses for all abilities which suit the needs of young people in Torbay. It is such an exciting time to be at Torquay Academy so watch this space. We will be moving forward even further now to ensure young people get the best education possible."

An open day and evening will take place on October 4.
