'Shelve wind turbines plan' call
ANGRY landowners and residents in Harberton were back in Totnes once more in the hope of seeing plans for a 46-metre wind turbine on their doorstep shelved for good.
South Hams district councillors, on the planning committee, deferred a decision last month on a proposal by local farmer Ted Chudley to see the 50kW turbine, which is enough to power 35 homes, built at Foales Leigh Farm, near Harberton.
After hearing the evidence, the councillors decided to have a site visit and see for themselves the impact the wind turbine could have on the area.
A month on, some 40 opponents to the scheme once again crammed into the council chamber at Follaton House yesterday to see if councillors would give the project the thumbs up or kick it into the long grass.

Objectors believe the turbine would tower over the landscape, would be situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, would generate high levels of noise and shadow and would have a detrimental impact on tourism.
The project had originally generated 79 objections and two supporters, including the National Farmers' Union, which said farmers had to try to diversify their activities to make a living.
The turbine, which is 46-metres high from its base to the tip of the propeller, is being proposed by Glasgow-based TGC Renewables on behalf of Mr Chudley and could generate an income of £30,000 annually to the landowner.
