Shock over refs move on handball
GULLS ASSISTANT manager Shaun Taylor may have tapped the lid on a potential can-of-worms when he revealed the nub of a half-time exchange with referee Paul Gibbs at Saturday's home game against Fleetwood Town.
Questioning Mr Gibbs' decision to turn down a penalty 'handball' shout against Fleetwood defender Alan Goodall, Taylor was surprised to hear the West Midlands officials' reply.
"He said he had been to a meeting recently, and apparently they're trying to cut down on the number of handball decisions.
"I'm afraid I don't understand that.

"Let's watch the TV tonight, and see if those kind of handball decisions are given.
"His (Goodall's) hands are above him. Your head should be there."
If Mr Gibbs is right, then the refereeing authorities, having allowed themselves and their members to be pressured on handball and several other issues, could be backtracking behind closed doors.
Don't get me wrong, there ARE too many 'handball' decisions.
One referee's penalty (Jack Wilshere v Brazil last week) is now another's 'ball-to-hand'.
If refs are having a rethink, all well and good. But at least let us know.
The vast majority of fans know they've got a helluva job, and a bit more transparency would help, not hinder, them.
