Smart new cliff railway open for business
BABBACOMBE'S famous funicular cliff railway has re-opened for the season after a £12,000 programme of renovation over the winter.
A new control system, decoration work to smarten the two cable cars and general tidying up work inside the two stations has been carried out.

Now the cliff railway will run daily until October.
John Ayres, chairman of the community interest company responsible for the running of the cliff railway, said: "We are looking forward to a good season. We have made a profit every year since we took over in August, 2009. This will be our third full season."

A funicular, also known as a cliff railway, is a cable railway in which a pair of tram-like vehicles moves up and down a steep slope. The ascending and descending vehicles counterbalance each other.
