Snapshot shows Torbay's healthiest - and unhealthiest - areas

PEOPLE living in Churston and Galmpton are the healthiest in Torbay.

They live longer and enjoy better health than their counterparts in other parts of the bay, figures confirm.

However, the figures highlight a bay full of contrasts, with Torquay's Watcombe ward showing the highest levels of child poverty in Torbay.

The figures are some of the highest in the West Country.

Using statistics published by Torbay Council and the End Child Poverty organisation, we have built a snapshot of Torbay's health.

The figures show that Tormohun, covering Torquay town centre, is the least healthy ward in the bay, and has the most teenage conceptions.

Wellswood has the most people aged over 75, but the shortest life expectancy for women.

In Paignton, Blatchcombe has more smokers than anywhere else in Torbay, while Roundham with Hyde has the most obese children and the shortest life expectancy for men.

Brixham's St Mary's with Summercombe ward has Torbay's most obese adults, while Churston and Galmpton Churston with Galmpton has the longest life expectancy for men and women; the fewest children in poverty; the fewest smokers; the fewest obese childrenm and the fewest teenage conceptions.
