Snow settles briefly in Westcountry but forecasters fear flooding
The first snow of the winter season has fallen across parts of Devon.
Flurries of snow fell on higher ground yesterday following a cold night, but quickly disappeared or turned to rain by the morning.

Areas of Dartmoor woke up to a light dusting, and there were reports of snow near Exeter city centre. The region has been warned to brace itself for another barrage of wet weather, which could bring further flooding misery on already saturated ground.
The Exeter-based Met Office warned that a combination of strong winds, heavy rain and high tides would increase the risk of flooding across the region.

Wet weather warnings have been issued for today, tomorrow and Saturday – raising fears some parts of Devon and Cornwall could suffer from localised flooding.
Officers of the region's highways and emergency services are monitoring the situation closely and are on standby to deal with any problems. A Met Office forecaster said a band of wet and mild weather would hit the Westcountry by this evening.
He said: "Persistent rain of up to 30mm on higher ground will fall on Friday. There is the possibility of localised flooding on saturated ground that is more sensitive to rainfall."
Winds of up to 65mph are forecast on exposed coastlines, while temperatures are expected to reach 12C.

As a result things are now looking very unsettled weatherwise up to Christmas with copious amounts of unwanted rain and gales as repeated deep low pressure systems are "steered" our way by that jet stream.
