South Devon College to offer full honours degrees
SOUTH DEVON COLLEGE will be offering learners the chance to learn a full honours degree, after Plymouth University approved their application to offer a top up year to its foundation degree in Healthcare Practice.
The College has been offering higher education courses since the 1970s, and foundation degrees (equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree) since 2000. They opened an £8million University Centre at their Vantage Point campus in Paignton in 2011, but this the first time they have able to provide the top up year to BSc honours level.
In September - subject to Plymouth University's approval - the College plans to offer two further top up years to honours level in Early Years and Sports Science.
South Devon College are also introducing two new Foundation Degrees in September - subject to approval from Plymouth University - Psychology with Sociology and Applied English with History. This will add to their growing list of twenty three other current foundation degrees, in areas such as: Science, Business & Computing, Arts & Media, Law, Tourism & Hospitality, and Yacht Operations.

College Principal Stephen Criddle is delighted to be able to announce this milestone in the College's academic history: "With the approval of Plymouth University, South Devon College is now able to provide routes to a full degree so that students who enjoy their Foundation Degree with us in Paignton do not have to move elsewhere, and can continue to enjoy studying at South Devon College to reach Honours level."

We are looking forward to being able to offer routes to honours in other subjects so we can provide the full range of degree courses to our community."
The first cohort of Healthcare Practice students to take advantage of this new development has only just started their course, which has the full support of the South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Current second year foundation degree student Rameez Shah - who recently won the WorldSkills UK Gold Medal in Advanced Caring - is now planning to move onto the top up year In September so he can gain a full honours degree with South Devon College.
