“If it is such a bad thing having a monarchy why is it so celebrated and envied in so many countries that don't have a monarchy? It brings vast benefits over most republics, so set aside the politics of envy and celebrate the advantages we have.”

“How much is it going to cost the taxpayer for these "celebrations" of some woman who lives in a large house and has wealth more than most people in the UK. Also what does she do other than stop this country from being a true democracy?”

“If you want to live in a Republic, HughFarquhar, why are you still here? Just go and live in the land of your dreams and leave those folk who want to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee to enjoy the moment.”

“Most people think of the queen like they think of religion, a pointless waste of time which benefits their lives not one jot. An empty hole that money is poured into. The press seem happy not to reflect this side of the story. Bring on the Republic.”
