BRIXHAM ST MARYS (Rod Hughes): Last week saw BSM draw similarities with the weather – fair in parts but downright horrible in places.

The Riviera Mixed Triples team enjoyed a good win against Babbacombe, winning two out of the three rinks for a score of 51-42 (8-2pts), while the Ladies Gallery League side bounced back from defeat at Kingsteignton with victory in a shortened match against Babbacome C on Monday.

Rain meant the ladies playing an agreed match of just 15 ends against Babbacombe, and the hosts took a comfortable 59-25 victory.

In their previous fixture, the ladies came away from Kingsteignton with four valuable points on their synthetic playing surface after a 67-54 defeat (6-4pts).

Meanwhile, BSM Mid-Devon League side could not match this performance, as they were white washed away on another synthetic surface at Dartmouth.

They were beaten 119-54 (10-0pts) all after having to battle with car parking difficulties with Dartmouth town hosting a full-blown music festival.

With only two points gained in the first two matches of the season a rapid recovery is required in the next game.

Graham Dowell, Graham Brough, Tony Powell and Kevan Davey set off really well but the Paignton rink skipped by M Matthews had other ideas and got themselves back in the game. Fortunately it was Tony Powell's night to shine and with some really telling woods on a number of ends made the real difference in the game allowing Marldon to squeak a victory 20-18.

John Gibbons, Terry Bowles, Brian Kendall and Alan Routledge are still looking for the Midas touch within their team, and this time it was Paignton's John Ball and his team managed to convert their chances to take 16 of the 21 rinks and win 28-7.
