NEWTON Ladies remain unbeaten following a 58-0 trouncing of Weston Hornets.

Former England Academy star Clare Steer made an instant impact on her return to Newton colours. Playing at open-side flanker, the vastly experienced Steer opened the scoring before going on to notch a hat-trick of touchdowns.

Fly half Emma Manning converted the initial try then scored one herself that half-back partner Ceri James converted.

By half time the visitors had extended into a 31-nil lead. Tries from centre Holly Shearer, James and second-rower Madeline Ramsey plus a second Manning conversion left Hornets well in arrears.

The all action Steer grabbed her second and third whilst inside centre Natalie Savage showed her pace to twice cross the Weston line.

Flying winger Laura Shearer also went in for a try. Manning's only successful conversion of the second half completed the rout.
