Plymouth Angling B won the Division Two title, over Kingsbridge, while Plymouth Angling's A squad were third. The presentation, including 16 category awards, will take place on March 3 at Stonehouse Community Centre.
Andrew Drysdale, of the disbanded Liskeard and District SAC, is the Cornish Federation of Sea Anglers' Western Morning News champion.
In the final of the contest, fished by qualifiers from heats across 2011, he clinched victory with a lesser-spotted dogfish of 2lb 13oz 6 drams (108.062 per cent) and the placed anglers were Grenville Arms SAC's Paul and Shane Hawken who recorded a bass of 5lb 11oz 14 drams and a 1lb 14oz flounder respectively.
The 2012 contest began with Mawnan AC's flounder match, from which Drysdale, now of Looe SAA, Eddie Taylor of Camborne AA, and Ben Harris of Mawnan AC, qualified for this year's final. The Mawnan match was won by Truro City's Simon Toms who had a fish of 2lb 4½oz.
There is a substantial programme of competitions this year on the mile-long detached breakwater in Plymouth Sound. The biggest is a national event that will be covered by one of the leading angling magazines on June 16 and 17.
This is a big-money contest organised by Plymouth's Castaways SAC, who have had considerable success with Breakwater events over a period of several years. It is, however, the first time that a two-day competition will be fished at this iconic location which is only equalled by Gibraltar's detached Mole.
The event is limited to 100 contestants due to the very high cost of transporting anglers to and from the venue, the setting-off point being Mount Batten Watersports Centre. The entry fee will be £30 but the size of the prize list is rather more than compensation for the outlay as the first prize is £1,000 and £500 and £250 for the places plus a number of category awards.
Tickets go on sale on February 1 through www.southwestseafishing.co.uk, and demand is anticipated to be more than keen, as already interest is being expressed as far away as South Wales and the Midlands.
Other competitions at the Breakwater will be organised by Plymouth Angling on July 14, a day event timed for 8am to 8pm and a night contest is on August 11 with timings in reverse order. Entry to each is £22 and tickets are already on sale. Call 01752 361294 or visit www.plymouthangling.com.
The Wyvern Division awards will be presented this coming Saturday at the Royal British Legion Club Alphington, Exeter, starting at 7.30pm.
David Mitchell, of the Angling Trust, will be giving a talk on the work of the organisation.
Despite the time of year, there has been plenty of carp activity at Paignton's New Barn Fishery, where the best of many fish in double figures was a common of 25lb taken at the Mirror Hut, peg eight, by John Stanley, who is locally-based, and the next best was a mirror of 23lb 8oz taken from the same swim by Brixham's Christian Scales.
Both anglers also had a number of other fish during their sessions.
Across the road at Town Parks Fishery, Plymouth's Tom Purdy fished overnight at peg ten and took a personal best mirror carp of 24lb 2oz that was making its first ever appearance on the bank.
Somerset angler Chris Mayer took a beautiful leather carp of 21lb 4oz, while up at the venue's Match Lake Tony Schiano had a 30lb bag of roach and rudd in a short morning session fished from Peg 20.
At Halwill's Paradise Lakes, a common of 30lb 6oz fell to Marti Rodgers who is on the estate staff.
The fish had absolutely no marks on the mouth and had somehow over the years completely resisted the many baits that had been offered.
The fish will always be known as 'The Virgin'.
