But the five-year old Staffie still needs a forever home.

Jessica Cooper, kennel worker at Foredown Kennels, first looked after the dog when he was found wandering the streets in January.

She fund raised to help pay for the £1,000 operation he needed top treat his leg.

Now she is hoping that a new owner will come forward to give Alvin the life he deserves.

Jessica said: "He adores Sarah and Anthony. It's such a shame they cannot keep him.

"They would love to keep him but they work away a lot and they find it hard keeping a dog as it would spend lots of its time with carers.

"Also, they love fostering dogs as they want to help more out like Alvin."

Jessica said that when Alvin developed his slipped knee cap, she feared that he would have to be put down because there was no money to pay the vets costs.

She said: " As a animal lover I wouldn't agree with this decision as he was a fantastic dog.

"So he got signed over to me so I made posters and placed them all around Torbay to help raise money.

"I put money pots in the family business, and went to fun dog shows to ask dog lovers to help me.

"I went to a different vets and explained the situation that I am raising the money all by myself so they did me an amazing offer of only £450.

"One month later I raised all the money I needed thanks to some wonderful people."

Jessica explained how a Facebook page was set up for Alvin and his plight was picked up by the celebrity couple when it was covered in a national magazine.

Jessica said: "His time is nearly up and he doesn't have a permanent home to go to. He is such wonderful boy, I don't understand why he hasn't been snapped up already."

“What is going on? This afternoon walking up Union Street in Torquay spotted a very old Boxer dog that had clearly been dumped tied to one of the benches. A big "thank you" to the lovely staff in H Samuels who kindly took the old doggy in to their warm shop and looked after her until the dog warden could arrange for her to be taken to kennels. The lady from the kennels said she will be snapped up by Boxer Rescue and found a loving home to see out her days.”
