A SIZZLING summer street fiesta is on the cards in Newton Abbot to help boost trade in the town centre and increase the footfall.

The road will be closed in Queen Street and Union Street to make way for the new fun extravaganza, which will run on June 22 and 23.

"We hope it will entice lots more people to enjoy our shops and all the stalls.

"We're working with the experts Born Hectic on the fiesta so believe it could be a great success which could be rolled out year on year.

"With a mix of shopping, theatre, dance and music we hope it will give the town a great boost for summer."

Entertainment will also play a key role in the festival with a stage at the town's clock tower for the all the area's dance schools to perform.

"So far we've got about 15 schools involved," said Sally."

Acts and musicians can also get involved as there are three other stages dotted around the town.

Stages will be set up at Wetherspoons, Pearl Assurance House and Market Walk to make the event all encompassing in the town centre.

Sally said: "We just hope for some good weather to bring in people from the area and further afield."
