Find a Swimsuit to Suit Your Shape
(Advertising feature)
Choosing the right swimwear for your body is a difficult art to master. If it doesn’t fit right; it doesn’t look right so make sure that you know how to dress to your figure when you’re on the beach or lounging by the pool. Follow this simple guide to identify your body type and find the ideal swimwear style to make you look and feel confident.
Apple-Shaped
The apple-shaped figure is usually rounder in the middle with slimmer shoulders and defined calves and ankles. This is a figure that many women tend to hide with layers of fabric, but don’t be afraid to flash some flesh on the beach! You can still be rounder and ooze confidence: it all depends on the right swimwear. First of all, a tankini or a swimming costume will accentuate your shoulders and legs while playing down your stomach and middle area. Feel free to experiment with prints and patterns and, as we all know, darker colours such as navy and black will create that slimming effect.

Pear-Shaped
A typical pear-shaped figure is bottom-heavy with the weight falling predominantly on the hips, thighs and calves. The top half of the figure such as the waist, back and arms are usually smaller, muscular and toned. If you fall into this category, the perfect choice of swimsuit for you is a bikini. Show off that slim upper half with a well-fitted bikini top – you’re lucky as both bandeau and halter-neck bikinis will work well to complement you. As for the bottom half, a matching pair of bikini bottoms, which – most importantly – are not too small or big but fit like a glove to your hips and bum, will finish the look. If you don’t want to get your bottom half out, you can always hide it with a stylish sarong or a pair of linen shorts. For your bikini, bright colours will go perfectly with tanned skin while pastel blues, pinks and oranges will work to complement fair skin.
Pencil-Shaped
The pencil-shaped figure is long and lean with a boyish outline. It’s usually athletic and toned, yet lacking in the curve department. You can change this with your swimwear – it’s all about subtle emphasis. Go for a bust-enhancing triangle bikini to add shape to your top half or a bandeau if you have broader shoulders. Padded cups will work to create cleavage that you never thought you had, while snug bikini bottoms will give shape to that tiny derrière.
It’s all about getting it right and if you know your shape you can certainly achieve this to look and feel amazing in your swimwear!
