Tale of two weekends as floods mix with sunshine
IT was rain or shine all over the Westcountry at the weekend – as the weather veered from one extreme to the other.
While many parts of Cornwall and elsewhere across the region bathed in the late-summer sunshine, some parts of Devon felt the full force of Mother Nature.
Indeed, homeowners in the South Devon were left counting the cost of flooding on Saturday as around one inch of rain fell in 24 hours.
Several homes in the areas of Paignton, Totnes and Modbury were flooded, as Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended 23 incidents in the early hours of Saturday. Flood alerts were issued on several rivers in the South West, including the River Harbourne at Harbertonford and the upper River Tamar.

Andy Rouse, response officer for the fire service, said: "It just seems to have affected particular areas of south Devon.
"Operational crews have been saying the water has been coming down lanes like rivers.
"I've never seen anything like this."
The Met Office yesterday issued another weather warning for the region with heavy rain being forecast for this morning.
This will give way to patchy rain across the region before the weather pattern moves through to be replaced by another which will see persistent rain continue throughout the week.
