Tara tops bill for Christmas concert for two charities
TORQUAY harbourside hosts a lavish Christmas By The Sea event on Saturday, with locally-based singer Tara Mathew (pictured right) topping the bill.
Christmas By The Sea is being organised to raise money for two local charities, Paignton-based Anode and The Living Room based at St Mary Magdalene church in Torquay. The project is being co-ordinated by a number of local churches.
The event starts at 1pm on Vaughan Parade with Tara Mathew performing a selection of Christmas songs.
She is also celebrating the news that one of her songs is being included on a compilation album featuring chart-toppers including Olly Murs, the Scissor Sisters and Usher.

Saturday's programme continues with music from other local performers including jazz band Meg A La Mania, The Unleashed Theatre Company and Get In The Picture, which is an opportunity for anyone to be part of a living nativity scene presented by Upton Vale Baptist Church.
Following the afternoon show there will be a chance for everyone to join together at a community carol sing-a-long starting at 4pm.

Jazzing it up
THE 19-strong Mike Westbrook Big Band (below) perform for Speakeasy Jazz at the Bancourt Hotel in Torquay next Wednesday night.
Mike Westbrook grew up in Torquay and was educated at Kelly College, Tavistock.
He formed his first band while studying painting in Plymouth in 1958, moving to London in the early 1960s.
He has led, and composed for, a succession of big bands and small groups and has toured extensively throughout Europe and as far afield as Australia and the Far East, Canada and New York.
He was awarded an OBE in 1988 and, in 2004, an Honorary Doctorate of Music by the University of Plymouth.
Musicians in the big band include Stan Willis, Roz Harding Gary Bayley, Lou Gare Sarah Dean, Alan Wakeman, Mike Brewer, Brian Moore, Dave Holdsworth, Sam Massey, Sam Smith, Ken Cassidy, Dave Hankin, Stewart Stunell, Billy Bottle, Marcus Vergette and Coach York, with vocals by Kate Westbrook.
A bumper Christmas raffle adds to the festive flavour of the evening.

Musical soirée
LOCAL musicians Jake Downs and Zoe Bailey are treating audiences at the the Blue Walnut in Chelston, Torquay, to a soirée of music on Monday.
The evening will feature songs composed by the two performers, as well as music by other songwriters and composers.
Zoe and Jake will be performing both separately and together, with 'old favourite' covers and new arrangements incorporated into the setlist.
The duo have performed at private events and Open Mic nights at the Blue Walnut.
Both are former Torquay Grammar School students, now at their respective University placements.
Tickets for their initial date of Wednesday sold out so quickly the Monday date had to be arranged.
