Taste of life in navy
SENIOR and junior sea cadets from TS Canonteign got a taste of navy life after carrying out some training on a warship.
A group of cadets from the Teignmouth-based group enjoyed doing some seamanship training arranged by the crew of HMS Illustrious at her home port of Portsmouth.
Lusty, as she is known, recently rejoined the fleet having undergone a refit after being placed on extended readiness to prepare her for replacing HMS Ocean which will undergo a refit.
The cadets carried out tasks which related to the theme of safety at sea including damage control, first aid and humanitarian assistance.
The day also included a tour of the ship, a fun tug-of-war on the flight deck and lunch.
The officer in charge of TS Canonteign, WO1 Ian Hurst, a senior instructor at the Royal Navy's submarine school at HMS Raleigh, said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to get a real taste of Royal Navy training and life on a British warship.
"You only had to look at the smiles on the faces of those taking part to know what a success the day was."
