TEIGN School's keystage three's girls' badminton team has won another round of the Center Parcs National Schools Badminton Championships.

The five-strong team won all of their games in the league round at Newton Abbot Sports Centre in December, but had to use all their experience and determination to win the county round in the Sports Hub at Paignton.

The girls won all three of their matches, against Churston Ferrers, Plymstock and Kingsbridge, to earn their place in the final against Colyton.

Jenni York, Leanne York, Elise Harvey, Emma Coniam and Charlotte McKinley came out on top in the final.

"Our fantastic five, have now qualified to the regional round of the championships next month," said Tim Flint from the school.

"This inspirational achievement by the girls will take Teign School's badminton to a level never previously seen

"It has demonstrated what is possible through the hard work and commitment of the players, the school and community clubs involved."

Other winners at Paignton were KS3 boys: Newton Abbot; KS4 boys: Exmouth; KS4 girls: Chumleigh.

The top two schools in each section qualify for the next round, so Churston Ferrers GS will be going as runners-up in KS4 boys,
