Teignbridge tourist business boost
Tourism companies are being brought together in a special business boosting event being organised by Teignbridge District Council.
Hotels, bed and breakfasts, campsites, attractions and a host of other firms in the sector are invited to Teignbridge’s Talking Tourism Forum, being held at Exeter Racecourse, Kennford, on Friday 9 November 2012.
The forum – the second one of its kind – builds on the huge success of the inaugural Talking Tourism Forum held in October 2011. More than 100 businesspeople and local representatives went to the summit which helped industry leaders work together, share ideas and build relationships to help bolster Teignbridge’s profile as a must-visit UK destination.
Teignbridge District Council is hosting the Forum in partnership with Visit South Devon and the Dartmoor Partnership. All involved are looking forward to this year’s event which offers an excellent opportunity for businesses to give their views to local authorities, decision-makers officials and for ideas to be shared between those already working in the local tourism sector.

Ahead of the event, Teignbridge District Council has issued a call for businesses to book and guarantee a place as demand is already high.
The event will begin at 10:30am and there will be a number of guests who will offer expert advice. Topics will include social media tips for tourism businesses, the importance of creative photography, customer service advice and more. The Forum also sees the return of the well-received ‘two minute nuggets’ feature - a chance for delegates to stand up and briefly explain their business to the audience.
A buffet lunch will be served at 1pm with time afterwards for networking.
Cllr Sylvia Russell, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Spokesperson for Tourism said: “The Talking Teignbridge Forum will be an excellent free event for our local tourism businesses. The first event in October 2011 was a huge success and we want to make sure we build on it and keep promoting our beautiful district as best we can. We have a huge variety of tourism businesses operating across the district and by working together we can pool ideas and find out what does work for our area and perhaps what doesn’t.
“South Devon has so much to offer: the coast, moors, market towns, picturesque villages and some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country. We want to build on the good work already being done by the sector and this is one of the ways we can do that. The Forum is a fantastic opportunity to gain up to date information and network with other businesses in the area. The team at Teignbridge has worked hard on this event, building on the success of last year’s event, and will keep working to ensure it forges even closer links with tourism bodies.”
Visit South Devon’s Marketing Manager Stephanie Cherrett said: "Visit South Devon welcomes the opportunity to meet with local tourism businesses and discuss the opportunities that the coming year will bring. No one can deny that the past year has been challenging for many businesses in the tourism industry which is why events like this are so essential, emphasising the importance of working together to ensure we make the most of any new opportunities and generate the best possible outcomes in 2013.”
Businesses need to register in advance to attend. The deadline for registration is Thursday 25 October 2012. Please email economyandtourism@teignbridge.gov.uk, stating the names of those attending, the name of the business and where you saw the event advertised.
