Nicola Taylor, a crew member at Teignmouth, said: "We have to launch the lifeboat within five minutes if it's a life or death shout and having the bikes will be really helpful."
Teignbridge Council has provided free use of a seafront store for the bikes where they can be kept and repaired.
Teignbridge Community and Voluntary Services helped turn the idea into a functioning charity – with funding advice and development assistance.
