TORBAY AAC claimed a clean sweep of men's and ladies' team titles at the annual Templer Ten multi-terrain challenge on Sunday.

The annual race attracted more than 200 runners from across southern England, and Lee Turner led the Torbay contingent home in a fantastic time of 53-54 to take second overall – 35 seconds behind Thames Hare & Hounds winner John McFarlane.

But Turner's time spearheaded the quest for the men's team crown, given to the fastest combined time of a club's first six runners home.

The men had five of their team members – Turner, Peter Monaghan, Dave Severn, Andrew Longthorpe and Jon Parkinson – within the first 10 finishers, while sixth runner Jason Mann put in a strong performance to secure 16th overall and a landslide team success over Clevedon AC.

The ladies' team result – for clubs' top four finishers – was a bit tighter, with Clevedon managing to squeeze their four ladies between Torbay's third and fourth-placed athletes.

But the result was not as close as it could have been, largely thanks to Helen Dyke's fantastic time of 59-47 – the fastest female time of the afternoon, giving her 13th overall.

Torbay clubmate Wendy Urban was the second lady in, nearly four minutes later.

The Templer Ten started and finished at Kingsteignton's Passage House Hotel, involving four miles of road and just under six miles of muddy fields, slippery woodland tracks, stony lanes and narrow riverside paths.

As well as the two team prizes, Torbay managed several category successes.

Monaghan's time of 56-20 earned him top spot in the M40 class, just ahead of Parkinson in 57-58, while David Hyde won the M60 class in 1-14-18.

Severn, who was fifth overall in 56-22, was also second in the M35 category behind overall winner McFarlane.

In addition, Dyke won the F35 class, Cathy Fewings (1-08-06) was second in the F40 and Urban (1-03-42) triumphed in the F45 class.

Teignbridge Trotters' first man home was David Tomlin, whose impressive time of 56-40 earned him sixth overall.

And the South Devon AC contingent were led by Robert Leeke, who clocked 1-00-11 to finish 17th – two places ahead of clubmate Jeremy Hocking in 1-00-31.

Simon Bunday was the fastest of the Dawlish Coasters, coming home in 87th overall with a time of 1-15-53.

Two of Bunday's Coaster colleagues, meanwhile, travelled to Somerset for the Illminster Lions 10k road race.

Alan Rigby was first Coaster home in 1-04, closely followed by Michelle Mitchell in 1-05.
