Thea's alternative opening
THERE WAS always a chance that Torquay United's pre-season game against Leeds United, rather than their friendly against Stoke City, would mark the opening of Plainmoor's new Bristow's Bench grandstand this summer.
Apart from anything else, the late Paul Bristow was a bit of a Leeds fan, his widow Thea revealing: "We used to watch them on TV together, when they were right at the top."

But there's a good reason why Mrs Bristow won't be opening the 'Bench' when Neil Warnock's Leeds come to Plainmoor on Friday, July 26.
You see, she has a fairly unmissable appointment in the East End of London that weekend.

Thea has managed to get tickets for herself and her daughter for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games the following day.
Now that is a pretty good excuse, isn't it?
