Coach Troy Culley decided not to open up with a full court press and decided on a half court helping man to man.

This worked well and restricted Peelers to shooting from outside the key.

Tigers managed to get the ball inside and Kieron Palmer in particular used his sound footwork to score regularly, contributing nine points in the opening quarter which Tigers took 16-9.

Tigers emerged for the second quarter with great confidence, and with Peelers now strengthening their defence under the boards, Tigers point guard David Sanches turned up the heat scoring freely from distance and penetrating their first line of defence to assist team-mates to score inside.

Tigers won the second quarter 29-13. Although this half time lead was very healthy, it did lead, as in their last game, to a scrappy second half. Tigers lost a lot of their discipline in offence and enabled Peelers to match them basket for basket throughout.

Tigers managed to score mainly on the break with quick transition from defence to offence. Once Peelers recovered their defence, Tigers found it more difficult to score.

Top Scorers for Tigers: David Sanches 27 and Kieron Palmer 18.

Coach Culley will welcome this week's break to work on team plays in both offence and defence before their next match against Exmouth Jesters 1 on Thursday, October in Churston Ferrers Grammar School sports hall (8.30pm).

TIGERS' opening game of the season was an 88-63 win over North Devon at South Molton Community College.

Palmer (18) and Sanches (16) again led the scoring. Other points scorers were J Iskander (c) 14, R Little 13, B Warren 11, S Flanders 6, L Presneill 6, T Edey 4.
