Tomlin's fastest to Obelisk and back
TEIGNBRIDGE Trotters dominated the 2013 'Oh My Obelisk!' cross country race, organised by Dawlish Coasters.
Trotter David Tomlin was first to complete the 11.3 mile course from Dawlish Leisure Centre to the Obelisk in Haldon Forest - and back - in 1.14.46, with teammates Garry Smart third in 1.16.52 and Ewan Walton 10th in 1.21.14.
Their performances were also good enough to secure the team prize.
Trotters' 13-strong team included six ladies, with Sarah Shutte (1.41.06), Jessica Parkes (1.48.23) and Sally Ingledew (1.55.11) finishing 85th, 121st and 138th respectively to claim the female team prize.
This was the eighth annual running of the local event, with the course offering steady ascents to the Obelisk, as well as waterlogged tracks on the slightly altered course following recent bad weather.
SOUTH DEVON AC had three runners at the Obelisk run with Rob Leeke first home in 18th place (1.25.13), followed by Jeremy Goddard 40th (1.30.12), Naomi Flanagan 107th (1.44.46) and Roger Webb 130th (1.52.29).
TORBAY AC's five Obelisk runners were led home by Martyn Breslan in 21st place (1.26.00), followed by Cathy Parkinson 55th (1.33.17), Phil Full 104th (1.44.15), Tessa Hearfield 136th (1.53.39) and Ray Brown 137th (1.54.15)
HALDON Trail Runners' three team members performed solidly, with Tom Bates first home for them in 23rd in 1.26.48. He was followed by Martin Mceneny in 53rd, running 1.32.34, and Nigel Veitch (1.44.23) in 105th.
BRIXHAM Harriers fielded five runners (pictured left), headed by newcomer Mark Greenslade (1.33.37), who managed 56th out of the 213 runners to finish.
Chris Millar was next for Harriers in 1.37.04, followed by Andrew Shankster (1.41.00), Victor Williscroft (1.41.58) and the only Brixham lady at the event, Nicky Johnson, in 2.03.44.
