Torbay Christmas tree recycling scheme lands top award
A CHRISTMAS tree recycling scheme designed to boost Rowcroft Hospice has won a green award.
Torbay Council and Rowcroft, South Devon's hospice, teamed up to run a campaign which was triple fold in its success and has now won a Green Apple Environment Award.

The scheme offered a helping hand to Torbay residents, raised money for the hospice and enabled people to do their bit for the environment.
Residents were asked to donate a minimum of £5 to the hospice and volunteers would come to collect their Christmas tree from their doorstep.

The trees were then mulched by the council and used by the gardens team throughout the Bay.
The scheme was supported by many companies including Bay Brewery, Marldon Marquees, Tor2 and Carlsberg, by giving up a weekend in January to collect the trees.
More than £3,000 was raised for the hospice and plans for next year are already under way.
Laura Carus, events manager for Rowcroft Hospice, said: "We are thrilled the success of the scheme has been recognised nationally.
"We are very proud to have won an award and thank all the companies and volunteers who helped us."
The scheme competed against more than 500 other nominations.
As a result of this success they have been invited to have their winning paper published in the Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice.
The scheme is set for bigger things this year and bookings are already open.
Laura said: "We're still on the look out for more local businesses to volunteer themselves and their vans to collect trees from outside homes in Torbay on Saturday, January 12, and Sunday, January 13.
"You can volunteer for a few hours, a whole day, or the whole weekend, whichever suits you best.
"If you think you can help, we'd love to hear from you."
