“I see he's currently advertising for a PA. Who's going to pay her salary, out of interest?”

“I presume this fund is after he has paid approx 30% of his salary to the government in Tax and NI. Most probably is more than that going to the governemnt as I am sure that this is not his whole income otherwise he would not be able to do it.”

“Tempting though it is for some people to blame the Mayor for everything, the fact is he shares much of the power with 36 elected councillors who many things in committees. So, we do not actually know that he decided that council employees should have parking permits, a principle which long pre dates his election and probably arose from pressure in negotiations with the trade union.”

“Well done to Gorgon Oliver. People forget that all the things that are being mention he inherited when he took the job!! He might become very popular if he started giving out free parking etc, but where would the council get the money from to run the bay? I think this is great thing he has done because 1, he didn't have to & 2, I can't see anyone else offering to do this!!
And yes he does earn a big salary but by the time he has paid his higher rate of tax I can't imagine there is that much difference - oh and all that tax he is paying goes on everyone of us!!!”

“Does this mean he will start to earn the other half of his salary??
Will he be paying for the council staff car parking season tickets instead of the taxpayers???”

“It was the people of Torbay that voted to have a paid mayor at £50k a year. Why would anyone have voted for this when we pay a Chief Executive such a large salary for doing this job I dont know - I dont think decisisons should be left to the general public as people did not fully understand the implictions of this vote.
Re Parking tickets I can understand it when it is people who are out and about travelling all day but I know someone who works in the council offices and historically has always had one - they sit in an office all day and DO NOT go out and about on council business and I have never understood why they get a car park ticket to just go to work - I dont!!!!”

“There's nothing wrong with being rich if you've worked hard for it. If we are really against the rich why do people aspire to it by doing the national Lottery?”
