Torbay children offered award-winning school lunches
CHILDREN in many schools across Torbay can be assured of an award winning lunch as Torbay Council’s supplier Eden Foodservice today announce their latest accreditation.
Eden Foodservice supplies hot lunchtime meals to 23 primary and special schools across the Bay on behalf of Torbay Council and has recently been awarded the Silver Food for Life Catering Mark.
The certification, awarded by the Soil Association, recognises the use of fresh, Fair Trade, local and organic ingredients including farm assured meat and sustainable fish.

* Freshly preparing at least 75 percent of all dishes on site.
* Ensuring that meals contain no undesirable food additives, hydrogenated fats or GM ingredients.
* Using meat that conforms to UK welfare standards.
* Using free range eggs.
The prestigious Silver Catering Mark logo will now appear on all Eden Foodservice menus used within Torbay.
Torbay Council’s Executive Lead for Children, Schools and Families, Cllr Chris Lewis, said: “This latest announcement is fantastic. It is a real testament to the partnership working between the council and Eden Foodservice and serves to reassure parents that their children are eating nutritious meals. This in turn plays an important role in developing children’s health, good dietary practice and healthy life choices.
“As part of our commitment to economic regeneration within the local area we fully support Eden Foodservice’s use of local produce where possible and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on this latest achievement.”

The meals are available across the 23 schools at a cost of £2.05 or are free to those who qualify for free school meals. Those who have allergies and intolerances can also be catered for including gluten and nut free.
