Torbay health trust scoops coveted award
Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust which runs community health services across South Devon and adult social care services in Torbay was ‘highly commended’ in the Provider Trust of the Year category at the prestigious Health Service Journal Awards.
The HSJ award ceremony aims to celebrate healthcare organisations across the country who have helped raise the standards of healthcare in the UK by providing high quality care and services, in an innovative and effective way.
The Trust was one of six Trusts to be shortlisted within the category and although the Trust didn’t win they were ‘highly commended’.
Receiving ‘highly commended’ in the category follows a stringent judging process where Judges visited the area to understand how the Trust operates in action, what the Trust’s priorities are and hear about patient experiences. The judging process also required senior leaders from the Trust to present their case for why they think the Trust is worthy of the award.

The Trust was shortlisted for two awards at this year’s ceremony with the second shortlist being for the Improved Partnerships between Health and Local Government award. The shortlisting in this category was based on work that has taken place to support carers throughout Torbay.
Frontline staff and managers from Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust attended the award ceremony to hear the outcome of the two awards.
Chief Executive, of Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust, Mandy Seymour said: “Being shortlisted in two categories at this year’s HSJ awards is an achievement in itself and although we didn’t win either award, it was a privilege to be ‘highly commended’ in the Provider Trust of the Year category.
“As an organisation we have always prided ourselves on ensuring that our clients are at the very heart of what we do and receiving national recognition such as this is something that our clients as well our staff can be extremely proud of.
