TORBAY ladies met Plymouth in the Lane Trophy with a very convincing win from Ellen Crispin's rink at home securing the overall game.

Crispin's rink won by 20 shots on one of the two home rinks to secure an overall victory despite defeats on the other three rinks.

But there were also important contributions elsewhere which helped make the overall match score 72-70.

Wendy Barron's rink fought hard to come back from 12-6 down to finally lose by two shots, at 17-19.

At Plymouth, Eunice Griffin's rink were leading comfortably at 13 ends and were disappointed to lose by three shots at 15-18.

But the rink scores meant Plymouth took six points to Torbay's four points.

Results: At Torbay: Carol McCarthy, Jean Sisk, Joan Glossop and Ellen Crispin beat J Biagott 30-10

Mo Harman, Pam Grant, Gwen Murray and Wendy Barron lost to V Shortman 17-19.

At Plymouth: Joy Norris, Sarah Vinnicombe, Sheila Cambray and Bebs Harvey lost to M O'Donnell 10-23

Heather Pickard, Margaret Hackett, Yvonne Blackler and Eunice Griffin lost to A Harris 15-18.

MEANWHILE, Torbay men won three of their four rinks in their Devon League game against Kingsley.

Victories on both the home rinks, by 27-13 and 23-15 respectively, ensured a 22-shot advantage which swung the match in Torbay's favour, by 86-73.

Derrick Singleton's four were close up until the last seven ends when they scored 13 shots and only dropped two to win 27-13. Alan Bowden's quartet was 21-9 up after 18 ends, but a count of six against on the 19th saw them win by eight shots.

Duncan Summer's game was tight all the way through, but his away team held on to win 25-21.

The only defeat was for Graham Warren's rink, with a bad middle seven ends seeing them lose by 12 shots.

At Torbay: Ray Sandercock, Brian Smith, Jim Harding, Derrick Singleton won 27-13 against P Wade; Tony Powell, John Read, Andy Wickham, Alan Bowden beat J Gayton 23-15.

At Kingsley: Kevin Murray, Bryan Martyn, Phil Hackett, Duncan Summers beat R Marsh 25-21; Tony Hodgin, John Cherrington, Ernie Knight, Graham Warren lost to M Price 11-23.

Torbay beat Kingsley 86-73 (12-2points).

IN the Wessex League, Torbay men lost 90-69 (14-2pts) against Plymouth. There is one match remaining in the league.

At Plymouth: Tony Powell, Derrick Griffin, Eric Devonport, Dave Vinnicombe lost to O Lucas 18-20. Peter Farndale, Graham Heaven, Ernie Knight, Graham Warren lost to S Evans 11-30.
