Torbay pair in top ten at Bideford

TORBAY AC had two runners finish in the top ten at the Bideford half marathon in a race of more than 1000 runners

Simon Longthorpe was first Torbay runner home is 8th place, with Jon Parkinson just behind in 10th place.

Among the category prize winners Longthorpe was 2nd senior man and Arran Tocknell was 3rd senior man.

Jon Parkinson won his 45 age category and Ray Wilson was 3rd in the 65 age category.

There was also a couple of prize winners among the club's ladies, Irene Hewings was fastest in the age 55 category and Sally Davies in the age 60 category.

Biggest improvers were Sally Shoolbraid who knocked a massive 11 minutes off her half marathon time and Anita Merritt improved her time by over seven minutes.

There were also PBs for Debbie Drake, Neil Dawkins, Chris Leaman and Gerald Barlow.

Seven Torbay runners were at the Bath Half. The club's finishers were: 48th Peter Monaghan 1 13:12, 1073rd Paul Clark 1 36:42, 1106th Anthony Raine 1 36 05, 1220th Greg Fine 1 38:15, 2141st Kevinn Cowell 1 43:42, 2255th Ray Brown 1 44:59, 4393rd Laura Lannon 1 56:35.

Torbay AC Member Adharanand Finn finished in 35th place in a time of 1:21:04 at the Silverstone half marathon

DAWLISH Coasters Simon Bunday and Maria Trylska ventured to Bideford for the half marathon, on a very cold day.

Over 1000 runners took part in this popular event which takes in part of the scenic Tarka Trail. Simon finished in 1 hour 43 minutes and Maria in 2:26.

Pat Clatworthy tackled the New Forest Challenge – 26 miles over forest tracks, paths, grassy rides, heath and woods. Good navigation skills arerequired to find a route between the 10 check-point grid references. Pat went the distance in around seven hours

SOUTH DEVON AC runners produced some excellent times and many pbs at the weekend.

Four SDAC members represented the club at the Duchy Marathon in Redruth, Cornwall. Steve Hookins had originally decided to run the 20-mile race but opted on the day to run the full marathon.

He ran the distance in 4.05.05 and in 136th place. a pb by 13 minutes. Jeremy Goddard finished first for SDAC in a very quick time of 3.13.30 also a pb and an automatic qualifying time for the London Marathon. Debbie Burman finished 70th in 3.34.58 and was 3rd in her age group. Mark Stockman came 93rd in 3.43.39 another pb by 21 minutes.

Another group from SDAC ran the Bideford Half Marathon. Colin Peters came home first for the club in 1.21.43 followed by Keith Belt 177th in 1.36.26. Keith was the winner of the O65 men's prize.

Others: Stacey Toppin 262nd, 1.41.02, Naomi Flanagan 273rd, 1.41.32, Roger Webb 428th, 1.50.50, John Drennan 468th, 1.53.05 and 656th Heather Maddock, who ran a pb of 2.03.10.

Two club members ran the Silverstone Half Marathon, held in Northamptonshire and incorporating the famous race track. Dan Palmer achieved a very fast time of 1.17.23 to come home in 7th place and Steve Shepherd was 3,576th in 2.06.04.

HALDON Trail Runners' Nathan White completed the Bideford Half Marathon in a time of 1:30:04.

Harvey Dann was the first Trail Runner home in the recent 10-mile Dalwood Three Hills Challenge in 12th place overall and third male over-40 in 1hr 18mins 57secs. Nick Warren was 23rd in 1:23.00, with Nathan White 34th in 1:26.31 and Karen Watkins first woman over-40, fourth woman and 44th overall, in 1:31.59. There were 115 finishers.

TWENTY-SEVEN members of Fit2run headed up the M5 to compete and support fellow runners in the 31st Bath Half Marathon. First home of the 24 runners was newest member, Vikki Masters with a personal best of 1:41:53.

She was one of 17 to record personal bests.

FIT2run meet on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at The Recreational Trust in Newton Abbot from 7-8pm.
