Torbay teams among the prize winners at the 'Fulfords Five'

TORBAY AC won three team awards at the Fulfords Five organised by Exmouth Harriers on the town's sea front.

The men's team of Lee Turner, Pete Monaghan, Russell Cleave and Martyn Breslan were placed first.

Wendy Urban, Linda Philippou, Irene Hewings and, Janine Callard were collectively second lady veterans.

And Pete Monaghan, Richard Postlethwaite, Steve Monaghan, Anthony Raine were second male veterans to finish.

The race winner was Jack Bancroft from Wells City Harriers in 25:54. A right royal battle for second place was won by Torbay AC's Lee Turner in 26:36, three seconds ahead of Chris Sabine from Tamar Trotters.

First lady was Ami Yetton (Plymouth Harriers in 30.37). Torbay's Urban was sixth lady and second V45.

Jonathon Cowling completed his first race for Torbay AC, breaking the 40-minute barrier in the process.

Tom Shoolbraid went round in 32.56 on his first outing over the distance.

He was the faster runner in the race under the age of 23 and is now running in the club's top-level elite group.

Irene Hewings 39.21 and Russell Cleave both set new personal bests.

Torbay AC are sending at least 20 runners to Plymouth this Sunday for the 10-miler.

THREE South Devon AC members travelled to a chilly Exmouth for the Fulfords Five.

Sprightly 81 year old Ken House finished in a respectable 47.34, Leonora Richards got round in 57.26 and Andrew Hammett was fractionally behind in 57.27.

DAWLISH Coasters Simon Bunday and Sarah Watson got round the Fulfords Five course on 36.41 and 49.26 respectively.

SIX Teignbridge Trotters were among the 198 starters at the Fulfords Five, in Exmouth.

Carrie-Anne Hewings brought the Trotters home with a time of 34.10 and 45th place. Gary Watson did 35.44 and 67th followed by Sue Hewings in 83rd in 36.21. Stephen Wallace was 124th in 40.57 with Chris Rogers chasing him down in 41.09 and 125th. Steve Rawlinson completed in 44.08 for 144th.

Across the mouth of the River Exe, in Dawlish, was the Exeter Tri Club's first event of their Aquathlon series.

Drawing the attention of three Trotter men, the race consisted of a 600-metre swim in the Dawlish leisure centre pool followed by a 5km run around the area.

Adam Caunter was in fine form posting an 8.41 minute swim and 20.10 minute run. His combined race time of 28.51 brought him second place in his age group.

David Tomlin, used to much further distances, posted an 11.05 swim. He then went on to record the fastest run of the day with a time of 18.56. While this gave him a combined total of 30.01, he narrowly missed out on a prize for his age group and had to settle for fourth.

Ian Woolley posted a 9.08 swim and a 26.39 run giving him a total of 35.47 and 15th in his age group.

Michelle Willcocks-Watts travelled to the village of Bishops Cauntford, near Sherborne, to take part in the Lions Club's hilly half marathon. In icy conditions Michelle completed the course in a time of 1.57.32.

Peter Royle was the lone Trotter flying the flag in the Longleat 10k, along with 794 other runners racing around the beautiful estate and finishing in front of Longleat House.

Although the course was a bit icy in places, Royle finished in a creditable time of 48.05 and came 148th.

On Monday, Lance Mason took part in the fourth round of the Brooks Winter 3k series held at Exeter Arena. In a quality field Lance was 10th in a time of 10.56.

MANDI Burroughs of Fit2run, completed the Blackmore Vale Half-Marathon in Dorset in 1.58.52.

Buroughs is heading towards her goal of completing 50 half-marathons before her 50th birthday in December.

MATTHEW Atkins was the only Haldon Trail Runner racing last weekend. He went to Bristol, where the course was uphill for the first half, returning back down to the finish.

Atkins completed the Bristol Park Run at Ashton Court in a blisteringly fast time of 18.42.

STILL going strong! Torbay AC'S Eric Barber was first in his age-group at the Dawlish Aquathon – a 600m swim followed by a 5k run.

Barber, who is 76, was 81st overall. His times were 18.38 (swim) and 29.19 (run) for a total time of 47.57.
