A special drop-in session for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender is being held in Torquay to encourage more people from a variety of backgrounds to become foster carers or adoptive parents with Torbay Council.

On Thursday March 7 between 3pm and 7pm an informal drop-in event will be held at Dot’s Pantry in Union Street as part of National LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week.

There is a critical shortage of foster carers and adoptive families nationally and LGBT people are often in an ideal position to offer a stable, caring home and to meet the diverse needs of children who are unable to live with their own families.

LGBT people in Torbay and the surrounding area are being invited to come along to Dot's Pantry for an informal chat and some cake in a relaxed gay-friendly venue. Torbay Council staff and existing foster carers and adopters will be on hand to answer any questions.

“Loving, caring people around them is all any child needs. It's a pity that so many natural parents are so willing to give up on their children. And supported in doing so by a state that pays them extra benefits for their alcohol and drug addictions.”
