Torquay blue plaque tribute to playwright Sean O'Casey
ONE of Torquay's most famous residents has been celebrated with a new blue plaque.
Described as one of the great playwrights of the 20th century, Sean O'Casey had his last home in St Marychurch, Torquay.

The chairman of Torbay Council, Cllr Roger Stringer, unveiled a Torbay Civic Society plaque at Villa Rose in Trumlands Road in honour of the Irish dramatist and writer who died there in 1964.
Sean's daughter, Shivaun, opened the proceedings attended by members of the Torbay Civic Society and Elizabeth Hazelhurst, who has written a biography on the playwright.

The family moved to a flat in the house in 1954.
Society chairman Ian Handford said: "Sean O'Casey is very much under-rated in Torbay.
"He's a major star of the literary world, particularly for lovers of classics.
"He spent a lot of time in Devon and all his children went to Dartington School."
