Torquay dementia campaigner Norrms' night with the stars

DEMENTIA campaigner Norrms McNamara had a night with the stars at the Pride of Britain awards.

Norrms attended the VIP bash in London after being chosen as the South West regional winner for his campaigning work.

Norrms said: "It was such a wonderful night, very surreal but wonderful. I was so honoured to represent not just all those touched by this awful disease of dementia but also all in Torbay."

Norrms said he enjoyed a chat with fellow dementia campaigner Fiona Phillips and the cast from TV soap Coronation Street which recently featured a storyline involving Alzheimer's.

Norrms thanked his wife Elaine for accompanying him on the night.

"If it wasn't for Elaine, I couldn't have gone."

The national award was taken by Manchester couple, Ann and Terry Panks, who have welcomed homeless people into their own home for the last 30 years.
