Torquay ring road closed off after car crash causes extensive overpass structural damage
A BUSY South Devon road is likely to be closed off "for quite some time" after a car ploughed into an overpass and caused some structural damage.
Police were forced to cordon off Torquay's Ring Road following the 5am single-vehicle smash on Saturday February 16.
A force spokesman said the incident happened near the overpass on the stretch of ring road between the Gallowsgate roundabout and the palm tree roundabout at the bottom of the hill.
He said: "There is likely to be some substantial road closure because there is a lot of damage to the bridge. How this man managed it we're not quite sure but the damage is extensive."

It is understood highways structural engineers have been called to the scene to investigate the damage.
It is not yet known if bad weather or thick fog have played a part in the collision.
Police said the driver, a local man, had been taken to hospital with serious albeit non life-threatening injuries following the crash.
