TORQUAY seafront was closed on Tuesday morning as the big clean-up from Monday's high seas began.

The man seafront road between Paignton and Torquay was shut as council teams moved in to remove tons of sand from the roadway.

“why dont they install floodproof barriers along the seafront. THey could make them retractable so in good weather they could be lowered for better viewing scenery pleasure and then raised when bad weather occurs.”

“The council should be looking to the environment agency to get some cash for a limestone rock breakwater. Its unacceptable in this day and age to have the sea coming over on to the road like that when it could be so easily prevented.

Something like this (without the pier) would do:

“Quite ironic that the high tide has cleaned the sea front of all the broken beer bottles, over flowing dog waste bins, syringes, burger wrappers, doggy doodah on the pavement AND only now are the council springing into action to remove a bit of sand.”
