A TOTNES-based photographer has been injured in an attack in the Syrian city of Homs in which two journalists were killed.

Sunday Times foreign correspondent Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik died when the house where they were staying was shelled by Syrian government forces.

Freelance photographer Paul Conroy, who lives in Totnes, suffered a leg injury in the same attack.

This video, posted on YouTube, appears to show him in a medical centre being treated for his leg injuries.

Rupert Murdoch, owner of the Sunday Times, described Ms Colvin as “one of the most outstanding foreign correspondents of her generation”.

She was the only British newspaper reporter in the opposition stronghold of Homs, a leading focus of unrest in the 11-month uprising against president Bashar Assad.

Mr Murdoch said efforts were being made to rescue Mr Conroy.

“We are doing all we can in the face of shelling and sniper fire to get him to safety and to recover Marie’s body,” he said.
