PEOPLE planning a trip to Totnes next Thursday are being encouraged to think about how they travel to the town.

‘Reclaim The Street’ organised by Totnes On The Move means the High Street will be closed to traffic for most of the day.

The event itself starts at 7.30am and goes on until 6pm where visitors can enjoy a host of activities and entertainment including car-free cinema, kids fitness groups, Bollywood dance fitness, zumba classes and drumming workshops.

Also on display will be an array of stalls including the Devon County Council Travel Devon Roadshow, a creative corner for children and story telling sessions.

This means the main road will be closed to traffic from Station Road at Fore St junction to Castle Street from 11:30am to 6pm.

Before 11:30am, the road will only be open to essential traffic.

Car parks will remain open but people are being asked to please consider using the bus, ring and ride, Totnes Rickshaws or Devon Lift Share.

Devon County Councillor Paula Black, local member for Totnes, is the project leader for the event.

She said: "We are all looking forward to putting Totnes on the map again as a great example in the way forward to a more economically and environmentally sustainable future.

"Car Free Day is being organised as a fun party atmosphere to celebrate all that is good in Totnes - there will be dancing in the street!"
